How the main options compare
Comparing accounting software means weighing four things: entry price, GST filing depth, InvoiceNow readiness and grant eligibility. The table below summarises all five options as verified on 15 September 2026.
Compare five options on the metrics that matter in Singapore: direct GST filing, InvoiceNow readiness and PSG grant eligibility.
Compare Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Financio and ABSS for a Singapore SME: 2026 pricing, GST filing, InvoiceNow readiness and PSG grants.
Comparing accounting software means weighing four things: entry price, GST filing depth, InvoiceNow readiness and grant eligibility. The table below summarises all five options as verified on 15 September 2026.
| Xero | Foreign SMEs wanting the most integrated Singapore setup | S$39/mo (S$42 from 1 Nov 2026) | GST F5/F8 filed direct to IRAS (ASR+ Tier 2 listing) | Yes, on the IMDA IRSP list | Yes, pre-approved packages |
| QuickBooks Online | Teams already using QuickBooks abroad | $31/mo on the Singapore pricing page (currency to confirm at checkout) | GST reports only; ASR+ Tier 1 via resellers | Via Fonoa, pending full IMDA accreditation (vendor statement) | None found |
| Zoho Books | Micro budgets and existing Zoho users | Free tier, paid from S$18/mo | GST F5 generated in app; not on IRAS ASR+ | Peppol feature published; not on the IMDA IRSP list | None found |
| Financio | Lowest-cost native Singapore compliance | S$20/mo (Essentials) | GST F5/F8 direct (ASR+ Tier 2) | Yes, on the IMDA IRSP list | PSG package published by the vendor |
| ABSS (formerly MYOB) | SMEs wanting a long-standing SG product with a desktop option | S$349/yr (ABSS Connect) | ASR+ listed; F5/F8 e-submission via Connect | Yes, on the IMDA IRSP list | Reseller packages advertised; re-check the directory |
One caveat on register status: IRAS is rebranding the ASR+ framework and published listings ran to 30 June 2026, so treat register entries as a snapshot to re-check before deciding.
Xero is a cloud accounting platform whose Singapore edition files GST returns directly to IRAS. In September 2026, Xero Singapore listed Starter at S$39 a month, Standard at S$70 and Premium at S$95, GST included. An official increase takes effect on 1 November 2026, moving the plans to S$42, S$77 and S$99. Starter caps you at 20 invoices and 5 bills a month; multi-currency only appears at Premium.
Strengths: Xero files GST F5 and F8 returns straight to IRAS, one of three options in this comparison that do (with Financio and ABSS Connect), and it appears directly on the IMDA list of InvoiceNow-Ready Solution Providers (IRSP). Where Xero pulls ahead is the depth around it: 35 pre-approved packages in the PSG directory at the time of checking, so grants are a realistic path. A new-customer promotion also ran in September 2026: S$7.80 a month for the first three months on Starter.
Limits: no Form C-S corporate income tax submission, so filing still goes through myTax Portal or a tax agent, and the Starter invoice cap bites early.
Best for: foreign SMEs that want the most Singapore-integrated ecosystem and the densest network of local accountants and implementation partners.
QuickBooks Online is Intuit's cloud accounting product, with a dedicated Singapore edition. The Singapore pricing page showed four plans in September 2026: Simple Start at $31, Essentials at $57, Plus at $78.99 and Advanced at $124 a month. The page displays a plain "$" symbol without stating the currency, so confirm whether you are billed in SGD at checkout before budgeting.
Strengths: a familiar interface for teams that already use QuickBooks at head office, aggressive introductory discounts, and multi-currency from the Essentials plan rather than the top tier. A 30-day free trial and a 90 per cent discount for the first six months were advertised on the Singapore page in September 2026.
Limits: as of 15 September 2026, QuickBooks generates IRAS-compliant GST reports but does not file GST F5 or F8 directly, and its ASR+ presence is Tier 1 through resellers only. Intuit has launched a native InvoiceNow feature built with Fonoa, described by the vendor as "pending full accreditation with IMDA", and direct IRAS reporting is not yet available. No PSG package was found in the GoBusiness directory.
Best for: teams already trained on QuickBooks outside Singapore who accept manual GST filing for now.
Zoho Books is the accounting module of the Zoho business suite, sold in Singapore dollars on the en-sg edition of zoho.com. In September 2026 it offered a free plan at S$0 for businesses with revenue of up to USD 50,000 a year, which already includes GST F5 return preparation. Paid plans started at S$18 a month for Standard (S$15 billed annually), rising through Professional at S$36, Premium at S$54, Elite at S$193 and Ultimate at S$373, all before local taxes.
Strengths: the lowest entry price of the five, a genuine free tier with GST tracking included, and tight integration with the wider Zoho suite of CRM and payroll tools. The free plan covers one user plus one accountant and up to 1,000 invoices a year, with email-only support.
Limits: caution is needed on compliance. Zoho publishes a Peppol e-invoicing feature for Singapore, but the product appeared on neither the IMDA IRSP list nor the IRAS ASR+ register as of 15 September 2026, and no PSG package was found. The F5 is generated in the software but filed separately.
Best for: micro-budget startups and companies already running on the Zoho suite.
Financio is a Singapore-built cloud accounting product published by Asian Business Software Solutions Pte. Ltd. (ABSS). In September 2026 the official pricing page listed Accounting Essentials at S$20 a month and Accounting Premier at S$30 a month, prices effective since 1 December 2024. Essentials allows unlimited users but caps you at 20 invoices a month; Premier removes the caps and adds multi-currency.
Strengths: the widest official coverage per dollar in this comparison. Financio is listed directly on the IMDA IRSP list, sits on the IRAS ASR+ register at Tier 2 with direct GST F5 and F8 filing, and the vendor publishes a pre-approved PSG package at S$436 including GST. Both plans can send GST invoices to IRAS via InvoiceNow. An optional payroll module, IRAS-approved and CPF-ready, was listed at S$25 a month for Essentials and S$45 for Premier in September 2026.
Limits: a smaller app ecosystem and lower international name recognition than Xero or QuickBooks, multi-currency only on Premier, and no Form C-S submission.
Best for: local and foreign SMEs that want native Singapore compliance at the lowest monthly cost.
ABSS, Asian Business Software Solutions, is the current brand of what was MYOB South Asia, renamed in January 2018. It remains a desktop-rooted Singapore accounting vendor with cloud options. ABSS is a subsidiary of Censof Holdings Bhd. In September 2026 its Singapore pricing page listed ABSS Accounting Connect from S$349 a year, Premier Connect from S$499 a year, an IMDA Grant plan at S$998 with access running to 31 March 2030, and on-premise licences from S$865. Premier Connect adds three users, multi-currency, inventory and payroll for three employees.
Strengths: a long local track record, an IRSP listing for the Connect plans, an ASR+ Tier 2 presence with GST F5 and F8 e-submission through ABSS Connect and Singpass, and vendor messaging around eligibility for the S$1,000 GST InvoiceNow Transition Grant.
Limits: the desktop heritage shows. Billing is annual, users are tiered per plan, and the modern integration ecosystem is smaller than that of the cloud-first rivals.
Best for: SMEs that want a long-established Singapore product with a genuine desktop or on-premise option.
GST compliance in this context means calculating the 9 per cent Goods and Services Tax, preparing the F5 return (and the F8 where relevant) and, increasingly, transmitting invoice data to IRAS. GST registration becomes compulsory once taxable turnover passes S$1 million; our Singapore GST registration guide covers the thresholds and timing.
InvoiceNow is Singapore's nationwide e-invoicing network, run by IMDA on the open Peppol standard. The GST InvoiceNow Requirement is a joint IRAS and IMDA initiative to make GST-registered businesses transmit invoice data to IRAS through InvoiceNow. As of 15 September 2026, it is already mandatory for new voluntary registrants: since 1 November 2025 for newly incorporated companies registering within six months of incorporation, and since 1 April 2026 for all new voluntary registrants. For existing GST-registered businesses, IRAS has announced phases running from 1 April 2028 to 1 April 2031 based on annual supplies, but the legislation was not yet enacted at the time of writing, so treat those dates as announced rather than in force. Overseas entities and businesses registered purely under the reverse charge regime are excluded from the requirement.
Grants soften the switch: a GST InvoiceNow Transition Grant of S$1,000 for SMEs with annual supplies up to S$4 million (S$5,000 above that), a Queen Bee Grant of S$25,000, and free-of-charge solution packages available until 31 March 2031.
Practical advice: pick a product already on the IMDA IRSP list and you avoid a forced migration later.
The Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) is an Enterprise Singapore scheme that funds up to 50 per cent of eligible costs when local SMEs adopt pre-approved IT solutions, including accounting software. The annual cap is S$30,000 per company, running from 1 April to 31 March, and the company must have at least 30 per cent local equity held directly or indirectly by Singapore citizens or permanent residents. Eligibility also requires group annual sales turnover of no more than S$100 million, or a group employment size of no more than 200 staff. The critical rule: apply before paying the vendor. Any payment made before the application submission disqualifies the claim.
Timing matters in 2026. PSG closes on 29 September 2026 and is replaced by the EDGE Grant from 30 September 2026, which supports up to 70 per cent of costs for SMEs with a cap of S$100,000 per year.
As of 15 September 2026, Xero had pre-approved packages in the PSG directory (35 results at the time of checking) and Financio publishes a pre-approved PSG package on its own site. For QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books, no package was found, and ABSS Connect packages are advertised through resellers, so check the GoBusiness directory at application time rather than assuming eligibility. If you are reading this after 29 September 2026, look for accounting software support under the EDGE Grant instead, and confirm the eligible solution list on the EnterpriseSG and GoBusiness portals before you commit.
Accounting software is the visible half of the work. The other half is configuring the chart of accounts and GST codes, connecting bank feeds, issuing compliant invoices every month, reconciling, and actually filing the F5 returns and corporate tax forms on time. Software does none of that by itself.
For most foreign founders, the practical route is to let a local firm do it. The accounting providers we compare for Singapore set up and run these tools for you: they configure the software, keep the books current and lodge the filings, so you get the compliance benefit of Xero, Financio or any other option without learning its quirks. Decide the software and the provider together, not one after the other, and your books are ready for the corporate tax season instead of being rebuilt in a rush at year end.
Software is half the job. See our independent comparison of Singapore accounting providers who configure these tools and run your books, GST and tax filings.
